PRIVATE LESSON INFORMATION & STUDIO POLICIES

I offer weekly private piano and voice lessons (30 or 60 minute sessions) to students of all ages and abilities, both in-person and virtually.
Each session is completely tailored to meet the student’s individual needs.
Enrollment & Registration
Space is limited: first-come, first-serve. I also keep a waiting list if I am unable to get a particular student in when they register, or if I do not have an ideal time or day available. All students must complete a private lesson agreement after reading the information on this page. All students under 18 must provide an adult emergency contact.
Scheduling
Students are expected to take lessons on a regularly scheduled day of the week, at the same time and location each week. If a student has a conflict with their usual lesson time and day, they may opt to swap with another student that week. A “swap list” is provided to families who consent to being included as well as the current schedule in the beginning of the year (August 2026). Summer lessons are scheduled month to month and are optional.
All lesson slots are 30 minutes long, with 25 minutes of guaranteed instructional time. Students may opt to take two slots for a 60 minute lesson each week.
Tuition & Billing
Tuition is due by the first each month. The tuition rate is a fixed monthly rate of $90, the total for the year’s tuition divided by 10 months (August 24th 2026 through May 21st 202) with an average of 30 lessons per year. Think of your tuition as a membership to the studio. A few “bonus” lessons have been factored into the rate in the instance that a student cannot make a lesson.
If I cancel a lesson suddenly on any given week, you will be offered an alternate lesson option.
A $50 registration fee* is due for each student per school year. This fee covers all materials, music expenses, recital fees, and practice supplemental materials. If a student loses a book or binder, they may be subject to a secondary fee to replace their materials. This fee is included in the August/Quarter I tuition invoice.
*virtual students exempt
LESSON PACK – Discounted Quarterly Payments
Students receive a 10% discount by buying lessons quarterly. Lesson quarters are July through September (Q1), October through December (Q2), January through March (Q3), and April through June (Q4). At the time of purchase, all lessons will be added up for the given quarter and an invoice will be sent with a 10% discount of the regular total. Summer lessons (June and July) will be factored in at a rate of $25 per lesson. Lessons during the school year will be factored at $90 per month.
I am able to accept the following forms of payment:
- Venmo
- Zelle
- Cash
- Check
LATE PAYMENTS: After the 10th of the month, a $25 late fee will be added to your payment. If the payment is not received by the 21st of the month, a student will be dropped from the studio.
STUDENTS RECEIVE AN INVOICE FOR LESSON PACKS ON THE MONDAY TWO WEEKS BEFORE A NEW QUARTER, ONE WEEK BEFORE A NEW QUARTER, AND ON THE FIRST OF THE MONTH OF A NEW QUARTER. STUDENTS WHO PAY MONTHLY RECEIVE AN INVOICE ON THE LAST MONDAY OF THE PRIOR MONTH.
SUMMER LESSONS: During the months of June and July, lesson scheduling is optional and flexible. Quarterly students are expected to quantify their lessons by March 15th for June, and by June 15th for July.
Single Coaching Sessions
Single coaching sessions are available upon request. These sessions are available when a student is unable to commit to weekly sessions due to scheduling or other commitments, or is choosing to work on something other than private music study (audition coaching/voice work). Appointments for sessions must be scheduled in advance. Please note, that weekly students receive priority as far as scheduling and availability. Tuition is due at the beginning of each session. Rates are as follows:
- Private Music Study (piano & voice): $35 per 30 minute session, $50 per 60 minute session
- Private Audition Coaching or Monologue Technique: $25 per 30 minute session, $45 per 60 minute session
Absences & Illness
Absences should be reported (via email, kaleighmichellemattson@gmail.com, or text) no less than 24 hours in advance of the scheduled session. Due to scheduling and limited availability, make up lessons are not offered, but a student may swap with another student during any given week. If you plan to swap spots during a given week, please notify me.
I do not offer make up lessons or refunds for any reason.
In the event that a student is ill or an emergency arises, virtual lessons are always an option for every student in the studio.
If a student has a conflict in scheduling during the school year, I will try my best to accommodate a new lesson time and day, but if I am unable to offer an alternate spot, the student may choose to discontinue study. In this case, I am unable to offer any refunds.
Discontinuation of Study
30 days written notice is required in order to discontinue sessions. Students will be sent an invoice for an additional month if this is not received 30 days prior to discontinuing lessons.
Materials
All materials will be provided by the studio as of August 1st 2026. Materials are covered by the yearly registration fee ($50). Virtual students are exempt from the material fee and will be asked to purchase materials as needed.
Media Policy
Pictures and/or video footage of students are sometimes used for promotional purposes online. Last names are never used when pictures, videos, or other work is featured online. Please state on your registration form if you would NOT like to be photographed or video-recorded.
Practicing at Home
Every successful artist works at their craft, whether they are studying classical piano or trying to be the next American Idol. Regular practice is crucial to the progress and success of each student. Practice recommendations will depend on several factors: the type of session the student is participating in, the unique goals of the student, and the level of technique and ability of the student. A generic recommendation, no matter what your craft is, would be to spend at least 20 minutes, 5 days of the week, working towards perfecting it.
Students taking private piano lessons are expected to maintain a 75 minute or more practice average per week. Students will be required to fill out weekly time sheets. You can download the sheet here.
Students who cannot keep an average of at least 75 minutes per week outside of their normal lesson time may be asked to leave the studio or to take a break from private lessons. Everyone will have a rough week here and there, but if a practice sheet continually comes back blank or with minimal practice, a conference will be scheduled to see if private lessons are a good option at this time.
Voice students do not have a practice minimum, but in the event that little to no progress is occurring over a month or more, a conference may be scheduled to determine if voice lessons are a good fit for him/her at this time.
