PRIVATE LESSON INFORMATION & STUDIO POLICIES

Currently, Kaleigh offers weekly private lesson sessions in both piano and voice.

Private audition coaching and monologue work is also available as single coaching sessions.

*see SINGLE COACHING SESSIONS below for tuition rates and scheduling.

She currently offers in-person (based in Morris, IL) or virtual coaching (anywhere in the world!) via Zoom or FaceTime. All you need is a phone, tablet, or computer, and you are ready to go! Many new students are often concerned about doing their music lessons virtually rather than in person, but Kaleigh encourages you to try it before you decide it won’t work for you. She has been able to make this learning format work for almost everyone who has given it a chance.

The best part about private music lessons and audition coaching is each session is completely tailored to meet the student’s individual needs. Virtual lessons provide more flexibility is lesson scheduling as well.

Enrollment & Registration

Space is limited: first-come, first-serve. If no available spaces are open, you will be added to a waiting list until one opens up. All students must complete a private lesson agreement. All students under 18 must provide an adult emergency contact.

Tuition & Billing

Tuition is due by the 1st of each month. The tuition rate is a fixed monthly rate of $25 per lesson, multiplied by the amount of lessons that would fall in that given month, based on the studio calendar, not the student’s personal calendar.

If Kaleigh cancels a lesson suddenly on any given week, you will be offered a tuition adjustment for your next payment.

Students are expected to take lessons on a regularly scheduled day of the week, at the same time/location each week. If a student has a conflict with their usual lesson time/day, they may opt to swap with another student that week. A “swap list” is provided to families who consent to being included as well as the current schedule. Summer scheduling provides a bit more flexibility…see below.

All lesson slots are 30 minutes long, with 25 minutes of guaranteed instructional time.

LESSON PACK – Discounted Quarterly Payments

Students receive a 10% discount by buying lessons quarterly. Lesson quarters are January through March, April through June, July through September, and October through December. At the time of purchase, all lessons will be added up for the given quarter and an invoice will be sent with a 10% discount of the regular total.

We are able to accept the following forms of payment:

  • Venmo
  • Zelle
  • Cash
  • Check

LATE PAYMENTS: Every week that a payment is late, $15 is added to the total. After 4 weeks, if payment is not received in full, the student will be dismissed until the remaining balance is paid.

STUDENTS RECEIVE AN INVOICE FOR LESSON PACKS ON THE MONDAY TWO WEEKS BEFORE A NEW QUARTER, ONE WEEK BEFORE A NEW QUARTER, AND ON THE FIRST OF THE MONTH OF A NEW QUARTER. STUDENTS WHO PAY MONTHLY RECEIVE AN INVOICE ON THE LAST MONDAY OF THE PRIOR MONTH.

SUMMER LESSONS: During the months of June, July, and August, planned absences are taken into account. Absences for June must be noted before April 1st, and absences for July and August must be noted before July 1st. All students are required to take 2 lessons in June and 2 lessons in August in order to keep their spot. July lessons are not required. Students may opt to pay for the required June/August lessons and not attend if they wish to have the summer completely off.

Single Coaching Sessions

Single coaching sessions are available upon request. These sessions are available when a student is unable to commit to weekly sessions due to scheduling or other commitments, or is choosing to work on something other than private music study. Appointments for sessions must be scheduled in advance. Please note, that weekly students receive priority as far as scheduling and availability. Tuition is due at the beginning of each session. Rates are as follows:

  • Private Music Study (piano & voice): $30 per 30 minute session, $50 per 60 minute session
  • Private Audition Coaching or Monologue Technique: $25 per 30 minute session, $45 per 60 minute session

Kaleigh Michelle Mattson does not offer refunds or make up lessons.

Absences & Illness

Absences should be reported (via email, kaleighmichellemattson@gmail.com) no less than 24 hours in advance of the scheduled session. Due to scheduling and limited availability, make up lessons are not offered, but a student may swap with another student during any given week. If you plan to swap spots during a given week, please notify Kaleigh.

Discontinuation of Study

A full 2 week’s notice is required in order to discontinue sessions. Students will be sent an invoice for 2 weeks of sessions if notice is not given.

Materials

Depending on both the student and the type of study they are participating in, some books, notebooks, and other materials may be needed. It is the student’s responsibility to purchase any materials needed. A link will be sent to the student via email, if a specific book is required. Piano students must have access to a keyboard or a piano. All piano and voice students should have a 3-ring binder to store supplemental music. Most supplemental music is provided by the studio.

Media Policy

Pictures and/or video footage of students are sometimes used for promotional purposes online. Last names are never used when pictures, videos, or other work is featured online. Please state on your registration form if you would NOT like to be photographed or video-recorded.

Practicing at Home

Every successful artist works at their craft, whether they are studying classical piano or trying to be the next American Idol. Regular practice is crucial to the progress and success of each student. Practice recommendations will depend on several factors: the type of session the student is participating in, the unique goals of the student, and the level of technique and ability of the student. A generic recommendation, no matter what your craft is, would be to spend at least 20 minutes, 5 days of the week, working towards perfecting it.
